The Best South Florida Farmers Markets

January 15 2024

Sunny South Florida is home to some of the state's most fascinating and varied farmer's markets. If spending a weekend morning strolling through colorful booths of farm fresh produce sounds like a fabulous weekend activity, you won't want to miss these South Florida market finds.

1. Fort Myers Beach Farmers Market

This market has been a downtown must-visit place, hosting over 50 vendors, including local farmers, artisans, and musicians. Shoppers will find a bounty of seasonal produce, including fruits, vegetables, herbs, and tropical plants grown by local farmers. In addition to fresh selections straight from area farms, vendors offer homemade products like honey, eggs, and artisan crafts.

For more than two decades, the market has supported local growers and artisans while providing the community with a one-stop destination to gather and enjoy all that local farms and talent have to offer. Fort Myers Beach Farmers Market maintains its role as a downtown hub during the market's hours of operation every Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

2. Sanibel Island Farmers Market

Located on Sanibel Island, this outdoor market is a leisurely place where shoppers can stroll through vendor booths to find fresh local goods. Patrons will discover various locally sourced products, including seasonal produce, fresh flowers, cheese, and honey. Attendees can also peruse stalls offering seafood, meats, and baked treats such as homemade bread and what have been called some of the best chocolate chip cookies around.

As part of the Local Roots group of farmers markets, this Sanibel location operates from October through May on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sanibel Island Farmers Market is also one of several operated by Local Roots around the area each weekend.

3. Cape Coral Farmers Market

Voted "Best of the Cape," this market has become firmly established as a preferred weekend destination for the community. Now featuring well over 100 vendors, the outdoor market remains a top spot to find fresh local goods. You will discover a bounty of seasonal produce and artisanal foods like homemade breads, pastries, and preserves created by passionate local producers.

Gulf-caught seafood, grass-fed meats, and handcrafted pet treats are among the many unique products available. Artisans also showcase their talents with handmade soaps, essential oils, and native plants. Fresh-cut flowers are also available and a lovely find for weekend enjoyment. The Cape Coral Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown Cape Coral Club Square.

4. Local Roots Farmers Market at Bonita Springs

Set along the picturesque waters of Bonita Bay, up to 50 vendors gather each week from October through April to offer a bounty of local goods. Shoppers will find fresh seasonal produce, artisan crafts, and prepared foods from regional farms and kitchens. Guests are invited to browse the stalls showcasing honey, baked goods, flowers, and more.

A live music performance often plays as the aroma of dishes from the on-site café wafts through the air. The market and its other eight locations are the perfect place to discover Southwest Florida's finest.
