Whether you are a resident of Fort Myers or are just here to enjoy our beautiful weather for part of the year, there are plenty of activities to entertain you and keep you active.
Here are a few things you can try to create a memorable summer full of adventures:
Boating on the gulf of mexico
One of the best ways to have fun in the sun on Fort Myers Beach, Florida is taking a boat out on the Gulf of Mexico.
Boating is the perfect way to spend some quality time with nature and explore the picturesque views of our beautiful area, including the many different islands and cities. There's always something new to explore.
These scenic views can’t be accessed in your car or through walking trails, and you’ll be able to enjoy your peaceful surroundings without city noise clouding your space. Don’t forget to pack your camera!
Paddling the calm waves of Fort Myers Beach, Florida makes for a wonderful and active afternoon.
There are plenty of places where you can rent a kayak, set out in the water, and get a close up of the amazing views and natural beauty of the area.
You can also make a friend or two with the manatees and dolphins frolicking in the water, and watch birds soar in their natural habitat.
Hammock it Up
There’s more to Fort Myers Beach than water sports and swimming, and you don’t always have to be active to enjoy the Florida lifestyle.
For a restful afternoon in the shade, grab a hammock and sway your way to slumber, catch up on your reading, or just relax in the ambiance of your natural surroundings.
Did you know that Fort Myers is known as a fisherman’s paradise? If you are a fan of grabbing your reel and catching your own dinner, our Gulf of Mexico waters are the perfect spot to bait your hook and spend the day with the sun on your back (wear sunscreen!) and your line in the water, as long as you have the appropriate permit to do so.
You can rent a boat—if you don’t have one—or fish off some of the area’s best spots along our 6.2 square miles of paradise on Estero Island.
You can also explore the open sea with one of the many fishing charters available in Fort Myers Beach FL. From near-shore and back-bay fishing to deep water and night fishing with full license, equipment, bait, and tackle included, you will be sure to bring home some of the freshest fish after spending the day—or night—with the area’s captains.
Stand Up Paddle Boarding
One of the water sports that is rapidly gaining popularity on Fort Myers Beach is stand-up paddle boarding. This is a cross between kayaking and surfing and it’s perfect for beginners.
There are many local companies that will guide you through the water with eco-tours exploring the back bay of Fort Myers Beach.
The paddle boards are guided through the calm waters just off of the Florida shoreline and you may even see dolphins, manatees, sea turtles, star fish, and other creatures of all shapes and sizes, as well as a variety of birds.
One of the best summer activities to stay fit and healthy is hiking, and you can do that in Fort Myers Beach with the many trails and boardwalks offered in our parks and preserves.
Lovers Key State Park is a popular spot due to its abundant wildlife, such as West Indian manatees, bottlenose dolphins, roseate spoonbills, marsh rabbits, and bald eagles, and its two hiking trails that can be used for hiking or bicycling.
Bowditch Point Park is another local park on Fort Myers Beach that offers a unique hiking opportunity. Out of 17 acres, 10 acres is dedicated space that allows for the park to be designated as a Great Florida Birding Trail site with plovers, black skimmers, reddish egrets, brown pelicans, ospreys, and migrating songbirds as a sampling of the birds you may be able to spot on your hike or walk.
Matanzas Pass Preserve is another great hiking location with 1.25 miles of trails winding through the mangroves and oak hammock. The trails are well-marked so you can take a leisurely stroll through nature and find some great photo opportunities.
Shelling on the beach
One of the best things about heading to the beach is collecting seashells. Fort Myers Beach has seashells in abundance, and you can spend the day walking along the shoreline, with the warm water lapping at your feet and the beautiful seashells ready for plucking out of the sand.
You may even get a glimpse of marine life from the shore or teach your grandkids the art of loving nature without an electronic device in sight.
If you consider yourself an adrenaline junkie, parasailing is the perfect way to spend the day on Fort Myers Beach.
Catch a panoramic view of the beach while you’re about 500 feet above the ground, and maybe even see your condo residence at Grandview at Bay Beach from your spot in the sky. Of course, if you reside in Grandview at Bay Beach, the area’s newest condominium tower and the final tower to be built in Waterside at Bay Beach, then you can have panoramic views of the Gulf of Mexico and Estero Bay every day from your luxury waterfront condo.
Not in the mood to go in the water? How about spending the day cycling around the shore?
Enjoy the sun, the smell of salt water, refreshing coastal breezes, and a little exercise while you’re coasting along the bike paths.
Living in Fort Myers Beach, Florida will always give you an opportunity to catch a glimpse of dolphins, but when you head out on a dolphin tour, you are guaranteed the sight of dolphins gracefully jumping out of the water and gliding back in with ease.
Take a wildlife tour and you may even see more than dolphins, such as manatees, sea turtles, and other sea creatures. Charters can be found everywhere on Fort Myers Beach, but heading to one of the parks and preserves is an easy way to catch a nature tour at regular intervals.
